Welcome to the Southwest Texas Junior College International Student Information and Services page.  This page was created to better assist our current and prospective international students.  (Para Español as click aqui)

International Student Admission Procedure:

A person who is not a citizen or permanent resident alien of the United States is considered an International Student.

To be admitted as an International Student, an applicant must submit the following information to our International Student Advisor's office by the published deadline below. 

Our year is composed of two full semesters, beginning in late August (Fall) and January (Spring). In addition we have two summer sessions one beginning in June and the other in July.

Deadline for Documents - Entry Term Requested:
August 1 - Fall Semester
December 1 - Spring Semester
May 1 - Summer Session I
June 1 - Summer Session II

New applicants must complete the following requirements to obtain the I-20 form:

1.                   I-20 Request Form 

2.                   SWTJC College Admission application. (http://www.aa.swtjc.edu/apply/secure/adm_login.asp)

 3.                  Original and sealed copy of high school transcript (CARDEX) and transcript(s) from any college(s) or universities attended in or out
             of the United States.

 4.                   Financial Statement – U.S. sponsor

Notarized Declaration of Financial support form (I-134) signed by U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident sponsor guaranteeing ability to pay expenses.

 Financial Statement – Sponsor outside U.S.

Bank statement of financial sponsor on bank letterhead that confirms a minimum of $5820.00 (US dollars) is currently available for the student’s educational expenses.

 

5.                   SWTJC Housing Application along with a $95 deposit (check or money order, payable to
SWTJC) to reserve a room.  (If requiring on-campus housing at Uvalde Campus)
 

6.                   Front and Back copies of any valid Passport or Visas.
 

Upon successful compilation of the above referenced documents, the I-20 will be processed and mailed to the student or sponsor.

(Starting September 2004, all new applicants need to pay a SEVIS I-901 Fee

Upon receiving I-20, student or sponsor must pay NEW SEVIS I-901 Fee.  This fee can be paid three ways, student or sponsor can log on to “http://www.ice.gov/graphics/sevis/i901/index.htm” for instructions on various ways of paying the I-901 fee.  Internet or Western Union payment options are the recommended means of payment.

Students MUST report to School Official after arrival in U.S. along with Passport, Visa, I-20 and I-94.

Transfer Admissions:

Students seeking transfer to SWTJC from another institution in the U.S. should follow the same procedures and submit the same documents as new F-1 applicants including the following:

1.                  A copy of I-20 ID issued by the previously attended US institution(s) and official transcript(s).

2.                  A copy of passport, visa and I-94 card.

3.                  A completed SWTJC Transfer Eligibility Form – Students’ current institution will endorse the form indicating eligibility to transfer to SWTJC.

International students must also abide by the following regulations:

1.         Must be enrolled on a full-time basis (unless approved by school official) and maintain satisfactory progress as defined by the Scholastic Progress Standards section of the college catalog.

            2.         Will be ineligible to receive financial aid or employment privileges.

            3.         Comply with SWTJC regulations and all other laws governing United States citizens.

            4.         Failure to comply with any of these regulations may result in expulsion from Southwest Texas
                        Junior College and deportation from the United States.
