Make an Impact!

On March 3rd-5th , 2011, the Society of Physics Students (SPS) and PTK attended the Spring 2011 State Meeting held at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX. During this meeting, students visited discussions on energy, magnetism, and low temperature physics given by professors from universities across the state of Texas. They also had the opportunity to  take part on hands-on workshops that dealt with taking apart simple motors, re-creating the motor, and observing which motor could run the longest when using energy sources such as hydrogen, solar plates, a capacitor and a battery cell. The students later visited SFA’s Planetarium Show titled “Mars Quest” which was led by faculty members of Stephen F Austin State University. Overall, this meeting provided students from SWTJC an excellent opportunity to expand their knowledge of physics and further increase their interest of the sciences.
