Position:  Part-time Truck Driving Instructor

Description of Job Duties:  Teach regular commercial truck driving classes as assigned by the college; actively recruit students and assist with job placement; maintain neat and accurate class and attendance records; perform routine safety and equipment checks to ensure safe/proper operation.  Reports to the Director of Workforce Training and Development.   Work rules, code of conduct and other policies are part of the essential functions of the job.  Experience in working with diverse populations

Salary: Salary based on qualifications and training.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education:  High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience & Training:  Five (5) years on the road driving experience, intrastate and interstate.  Experience in tractor-trailer operation required; teaching experience preferred; thorough knowledge of field. Ability to communicate and work effectively with students/college personnel.

Additional Qualification Requirements:  Class A, CDL License with all endorsements including passenger and Hazardous Materials.  School bus endorsement preferred.  Must pass a road test and demonstrate driving skills.  Thorough knowledge of Federal rules/regulations and Federal DOT hours of service requirements.   Must have ability and patience to impart knowledge/experience to students.  Excellent oral/written communication skills.  Ability to work with little direct supervision. Ability to plan, organize, and control within parameters of the job description.  Responsible for care of tractor trailer equipment and all training aids. Ability to identify student needs, organize appropriate teaching plans, evaluate progress and take corrective action.  Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.  Texas Department of Transportation clear driving record. Must possess the required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodation, the essential functions of the job. Candidate must be authorized to work in the U.S. and must provide verifiable credentials; successful completion of reference and background check specified for the position.  Must have a valid Texas driver’s license and be insurable through SWTJC insurers. Travel required to other geographic locations served by the college.  Security-sensitive position
