Student Government Association members

protesting proposed Pell grant funding cuts to U.S. Senators John Cornyn
and Kay Bailey Hutchison. Over 200 SWTJC Uvalde students and staff
signed the petitions.
Home run blast

Ricky Cisneros of Crystal City blasts a home run
on Wednesday, March 9 during action in the technical programs softball
championship. Cisneros and his Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration
Technology classmates downed the Automotive Technology class, 13-11.
Wednesday's winner will play Friday at 10:30 a.m. for the championship.
Physics careers

Dr. Wayne Kinnison of Texas A&M - Kingsville discusses careers
in physics with SWTJC Uvalde students on Tuesday, March 1. Kinnison, an
associate professor of physics, was a guest of the Society of Physics
Students (SPS) at SWTJC Uvalde. |

Pit for drawing

Welding instructor Willie Garcia (right) and some

stand by the barbecue pit they constructed in
class. Once the finishing touches are put on the pit, the class will
sell tickets for a drawing to see who will be the lucky owner.
Technical champs

The Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology class are champs
of the technical programs softball competition held the week before
spring break. The A-C & Refrigeration group downed the Auto Body Repair
Technology class, 17-4, on Friday, March 11 to win the championship
trophy. Other teams competing were Automotive Technology and Welding

Practice session

Members of the Automotive Technology class get in some practice
on Monday, March 7, in preparation for their game Wednesday against the
Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration Technology class. On Thursday, the
Welding Technology class and Auto Body Repair Technology class
will play and the winners of the two games will meet Friday for the
technical programs championship.
DUI simulator

SWTJC staff member Blanca Chavarria experiences
the AWARE - III DUI Simulator on Thursday morning (March 3) in the
Matthews Student Center. The simulator will be on campus until 4 p.m.
Thursday. Students and staff are invited to take part in the
demonstration being offered by the Student Activities Office and Rio
Grande College.
