SWTJC coach,
players honored
SWTJC men’s coach Luis Fernandez has been
named coach of the year by the South Texas Club Sports League.
The announcement came Tuesday afternoon in San Antonio at
the annual league awards banquet.
"I am extremely proud and humbled to have received
this award," Fernandez said. "This is my first year coaching and I
appreciate all the support I have received from our players and all the
staff at SWTJC."
Cowboys guard John Register was also named to the
all-league first team, while Jeremiah King earned second team
recognition and Cole Martinez was honorable mention.
For the SWTJC Cowgilrs, Aracelia Delgado and Christina
Guevara were named to the all-league second team.
SWTJC basketball
players named on
all-academic team
Five members of the men’s team and one from the
women’s team have been named to the all-academic team for the South
Texas Club Sport League.
Tiffany Pivoda, with a 4.0 GPA, was the only Cowgirl to receive
all-academic honors.
For the Cowboys, honorees include: Garrett Mercer, 4.0 GPA; Raymond
Mendez, 3.4 GPA; Rudy Ortiz, 3.3 GPA; Jonathan Sanchez, 3.03 GPA; and
Steven Sanchez, 3.0 GPA.

Jump shot

game of the regular season, 75-70. With the loss, SWTJC men will be
seeded second in next weekend's league championship tournament.
Cowgirls win

SWTJC's Adrianna Garcia executes a pass in a

the contest, 74-62. Next action for both SWTJC teams will be Wednesday,
Feb. 16, when they travel to San Antonio to take on Northwest Vista
College.

SWTJC to play
in volleyball league
Southwest Texas Junior College Uvalde campus will compete in a new
women’s volleyball league this fall.
SWTJC will join The Victoria College and eight San Antonio teams in
the new league which will be split into two divisions.
The Cowgirls will play in the west division which includes teams from
Trinity University, The University of Texas at San Antonio, Northwest
Vista College and University of the Incarnate Word.
In the east division, teams include The Victoria College, Palo Alto
College, St. Philip’s College, UTSA 2 and Northeast Lakeview College.
Plans call for teams to play each other twice within their division
and once against teams in the opposing division. Play will tentatively
begin on Oct. 13 and end on Dec. 1 for the fall semester. League play
will begin in the spring semester on Jan. 26.

Basketball league
begins play in October
Play in the South Texas Club Sports Basketball League is tentatively set
to begin this fall on Oct. 12.
The SWTJC Cowboys will compete against teams from Northeast Lakeview
College, Palo Alto College, University of the Incarnate Word, Schreiner
University, Northwest Vista College, The Victoria College and St.
Philip’s College.
In the women’s division, the SWTJC Cowgirls will go up against Palo
Alto College, University of the Incarnate Word, Northwest Vista College,
The Victoria College and St. Philip’s College.
League plans call for each team to play each other twice in the men’s
division for a total of 14 games. In the women’s division, teams will
play each other three times for a total of 15 games.
