The Eta Beta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International
Honor Society held its spring induction Thursday, Feb. 24, in Uvalde.New inductees include Lindsey Adams, Tami Bendele, Emmanuel Briseño,
Jamie Calliham, Bobby Jo Castillo, Alejandro Chapa, Miguel Contreras IV,
Christopher Cruz, Eduardo Cuellar, Bethany Culpepper and Jessica DeHoyos.
Other spring inductees are Angel Flores, Andres Garcia, Dana Garza,
Ernest Garza II, Lisa Garza, Angela Gonzales, Veronica Gracia, David
Guerrero, Linda Guevara, Xavier Guzman and Hannah Hocker.
Also, Melodie Hocker, Carli Holt, Austin James, Rachael Knight, Amy
Kurckemeyer, Joanna Macias, Shauwna Mason, Carol Nichols, Gabriella
Ortiz and Ailene Overton.
Members of the spring 2011 induction class also include, Argelia
Reece, Rebekkah Reyes, Mark Roberson, Steven Rodriguez, Unike Rodriguez,
Sarah Rogers, Alberto Salazar, Selina Sonora, Josefina Verjan and Maria
Willemin.
SWTJC Dean of Admissions Joe Barker welcomed the large crowd on hand
for the ceremony and congratulated this year’s inductees.
"Induction into Phi Theta Kappa testifies to these students’ hard
work and dedication in the classroom," Barker said. "Congratulations and
keep up the good work."
Current Eta Beta Chapter officers who conducted the official
induction ceremony were Addie Brezinski, Amber Harrington, Valeria
Maltos and Daniel Ibarra.
Longtime chapter advisor Barbara Blair noted in her closing remark
that this spring’s group of inductees is the largest in the chapter’s
61-year history.
To earn membership in Phi Theta Kappa, students must have completed
at least 12 semester hours with at least a 3.5 GPA. Students must also
be currently enrolled in at least six hours and maintain a 3.0 GPA to
remain members in good standing.
A reception for inductees and their families was held in the Matthews
Student Center immediately following the ceremony.
